Concerned that there may be many homeless Alaskan daughters sharing the same plight as Bristol, her 17-year-old unwed daughter, Governor Palin announced that she would be recommending to the State Legislature that a portion of the federal funds that had previously been earmarked for “The Bridge to Nowhere” be used to house homeless unwed mothers in restored abandoned buildings in the state’s capital.

“This is consistent with the Republican Party’s platform that abstinence is the only birth control method that should be taught to our children, and that all life is sacred, and all pregnant women should be required to carry their pregnancies to term, regardless of the circumstance, even if they were raped or the victims of incest.

“When Senator McCain and I are sworn into office next January, we will be proactively lobbying state legislatures to provide housing with federal funds for the millions of unwed mothers that will surely remain pregnant after our newly-appointed Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade.” Palin opined.

“I will also be asking Congress to provide federal funds for their children in the Sarah Palin Act for unwed Women’s Newborns (SPAWN), a bill that will provide funding for the rearing and education of the more than three million more unwanted children that will be born in the year following the demise of Roe. Since, statistically, older women who become pregnant, including those who are raped, and young women who are the victims of incest have a significantly higher chance of having a child with special needs, I have also asked Congress to quadruple funding to provide for the more than 200,000 special needs children that will be born to this group” the Governor promised.

“In addition, I will be asking Congress to provide federal funds to the states in the amount of $75,000 per year, per child, to provide for the special education, healthcare and transportation required for these children to have a quality life, and become mainstream members of society. The funding that I am requesting is $15,000,000,000 for Fiscal Year 2009, an amount equal to the financial burden that these ’special’ children will have on the economy.”

Gov. Sarah Palin Of Alaska, announcing with her husband, Todd, that their unmarried 17-year-old daughter is pregnant. (It also appears that there will be a shotgun wedding.)

How about Sarah Palin’s “Honey, try-and-keep-your-legs-crossed” or “just say no” birth control method; what naïveté! And strutting her pregnant 17-year-old daughter out for all the world to appreciate, thereby setting an example that it’s OK for average Americans to have kids while in their teens, too, before they have jobs or a complete education, and have no ability to support a family. Will any of the next generation have fathers that are married to their mothers (at least to start out with)? How do you spell Welfare Mother? ¿Sabes que “public assistance”? It seems that it’s OK to be ignorant about these things if you’re beautiful!

If enough Americans vote Republican, we will have the most beautiful woman standing next to a Chief Executive of a nation since Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. And with just as much substance.
This is a woman who has stated publicly that she would not let even her daughter get an abortion, even if she was raped or the victim of incest, refuses to permit the teaching of sex education in public schools, has a pregnant-out-of-wedlock 17-year old daughter, and believes in teaching abstinence as birth control.

She also got pregnant herself using the very same birth control method at the very risky age of 43 and now has borne a child with Down syndrome. A 20-year-old woman has a 1 in 1500 chance of having a child with Down syndrome whereas a 42-year-old woman has a 1 in 55 chance. (I guess that her husband wasn’t listening to her on abstinence, either.)

Sarah Palin is an admitted evangelical. Is she evangelizing for folks to keep their children in the dark about how babies are made? Does she even know?

I hope that no one in her family ever needs any treatment for Alzheimer’s.

And remember, John McCain has very carefully vetted her, and believes that she has no skeletons in her closet.

Well, maybe John McCain isn’t having as much fun as French president Nikolas Sarcozy, but he did show up with a real tropy running mate in his Hail Mary pass at the Republican Convention.

Not really a pry-my-cold-dead-fingers-off-of-my-Bible kind of knee-jerk right-wing Republican, Senator McCain chose a stunningly beautiful, absolutely wacky “hahky mahm” as his surrogate to pander to the far right that in a fashion that he could not stomach to do himself.

Will it work? Let’s see in November.
